Enpass 5.6 for Desktop brings you several new features

While we are gearing up for our next major release – Enpass 6 – we’re continuously working on adding more features to the existing versions, and this time it’s a bunch of most-requested features on our Forums.

So, let's dive right in.

The new system-wide shortcut to access Enpass

This new add-on in Enpass allows you to access the Enpass data from anywhere. For example, if you’re working on something and have to open Enpass to fetch your bank account details, all you need to do is hit the keyboard shortcut (hotkey) from within the same app you’re working on, and the Enpass helper window will pop-up right there to give you quick access to your Enpass data.

To learn how to set up the newly introduced hotkey on your Mac or Windows, just go through this section in the user manual.

Auto copy TOTP to clipboard

Sometimes it is annoying to switch to the Enpass app to manually copy the TOTP from the item and then paste it in the webpage to be finally able to log-in.

Starting with the latest version, Enpass will now automatically copy the TOTP from the item to the clipboard after autofilling the username and password on the webpage. You’ll just have to paste the TOTP in the required field and log in.

You don’t even have to worry about the new TOTP that gets changed every 30 seconds since Enpass will auto-update the new TOTP to the clipboard.

Now autofill basic auth dialogs too

Prior to this update, Enpass was only able to fill the login forms on a webpage, not the basic auth dialogue. But not anymore! This version is now capable of filling every single login form in Chrome and Opera browsers.

Autofill in Firefox 57 with the Microsoft Store app

After the add-ons were replaced by WebExtension in Firefox 57, the new Enpass app on the Microsoft Store stopped working with the Firefox browser. But we’ve managed to resolve the issue very quickly!

It's just a component Native Messaging host for Enpass that you have to install as a standalone file and all done. For more detail on this, you may refer to this blog post.

So, that’s that. If you have any questions or clarifications, feel free to comment here, reach us on Twitter at @EnpassApp or on Facebook. You can also drop us a line at support@enpass.io for any issue, and to start any discussion, head straight to the Enpass Forums.

Hi, is basic auth filling support also planned for Safari on Mac?

Reply

Enpass Team 6 months ago

Hi Martin,

No such plans at the moment because currently, there is no API available for Safari for the basic auth filling. We are waiting for the release of any relevant APIs and as soon as we have them, we will start working on this feature.

I am a new customer (ex Lastpass user) I hope you will implement form filling (name, adress, mail, phonenumber and so on) in the next major release. That is the only thing I miss from Lastpass, otherwise I love Enpass. Just love the fact that I have control over the database.

Hi Pentti,

Welcome aboard and thanks a lot for choosing Enpass.

Both the identity and form filling features are already under development and will be available in our next major update Enpass 6. We really appreciate your patience and support.

Cheers!

This is so much better than keepass or last pass or dashlane. It's almost as great as 1Password and I use Enpass now / zillion times better price!!! and great developer app support.

Really appreciate that.

Thanks for the great update!

However, I wonder how I can auto fill basic auth dialogs in Chrome. Pressing the hotkey of the Chrome extension doesn't do anything.
Using the newly introduced hotkey of Enpass results in Enpass opening a new tab where the basic auth dialog pops up - with empty input fields.

Are there any instructions to follow or any specific versions necessary?

Hi Sebastian,

Thanks for getting in touch and sharing your concern.

Currently, Enpass auto-fills the basic auth dialogs only with the Enpass browser extension (not with the Hotkey or Shortcut). For this open the URL, click the Enpass extension button in your browser and double-click the item for which you want to auto-fill the details.

Cheers!

I have to have different password lists at work vs. at home. Right now I use KeePass at home and Enpass at work, but that won't last because KeePass is so clunky. Please, please, please, please, please!!! give us multiple list or profile capability!!!!

Hi Jonathan,

I can understand your concern and we're are already working on adding multi-vault support to Enpass and you can easily segregate data using vaults. This feature will be available in our next major update Enpass 6.

We thank you for your patience and understanding.

Cheers!

You talk about basic autofill for Mac and Windows. What about Linux support? I've been waiting for this for a long time, it's one of the only things I miss from Lastpass...

Reply

Enpass Team 6 months ago

Hi Bart,

The recent update v5.6 brings auto-fill support in basic auth dialog on all the desktop platforms including Linux. So please check and let us know if you face any problem.
But in case, if you are talking about the new system-wide shortcut to access Enpass, then it's supported only in Mac and Windows.

Using desktop 5.6.5 and firefox extension 5.5.2, i see no way to authenticate basic auth boxes inside the browser with Enpass. Same for Chrome.. Am i missing something?

Hi Bart,

Sorry to hear that. We’d like to take a closer look. Could you share more details at support@enpass.io so we can check it for you?

Thanks.

Hi,

Enpass is very good. But I have few concerns -

Why is it that the browser plugin window size is very small and congested?

I think there should be password re-prompt for certain important items.

Thanks,
Vijay

Hi,
in Enpass 6 there will be support for windows hello also for the desktop version since the UWP app has not the browser extension compatibility?

Thanks!

Hi Marco,

We've already integrated Windows Hello in the Windows Store app back in December 2017. But it doesn't offer the smooth user experience, required for an official release due to the lack of APIs. The APIs required for Hello integration doesn't work great with the Bridged apps. Although, we are in talks with the Microsoft team to make it better and waiting for their support. Till then we appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter.

Thanks!

I'm not completely sure I understand why you seem to be abandoning UWP. An Edge plugin could easily access my OneDrive-synced vault, just like Enpass itself does, right? Sure, I'd need to connect the Edge plugin to OneDrive for this to work - but IMHO, it's worth it. Everyone in our household uses Windows Mobile and Enpass all day every day, so UWP, touch and Hello support is a big deal for me.

Will the new system-wide shortcut to access Enpass come to Linux aswell? This is probably the biggest missing feature for me.

Reply

Enpass Team 5 months, 3 weeks ago

Hi Hestus,

Sorry for the late reply. We've added the system-wide shortcut to the Linux platform as well but the various Linux distros availability make it really difficult for us to find an all-encompassing solution as the EnpassHelper gets stuck on some distros. So, for a while, we've postponed this feature because we are focusing on our next major update.
In case, if you really want to use the system-wide shortcut in Ubuntu then, first create a custom shortcut via
System Settings-> Keyboard--> Shortcuts--> Click '+' button--> Enter shortcut name and paste the following command in 'Command' text box and click apply.
dbus-send --dest=in.sinew.Enpass --type=method_call /Shortcut in.sinew.Enpass.ShortcutInterface.showEnpassHelper

This sets a command in the system but it will not assign a keyboard shortcut to access Enpass. To assign a shortcut click on 'Disabled' (Adjacent to newly created custom shortcut name) and set the keyboard shortcut to access Enpass.

NOTE: This system-wide shortcut will work only if Enpass app is running in the background and the browser extension is enabled.

The autofill of basic auth dialog is amazing. Any change this will land in Firefox.
Firefox supports https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Add-ons/WebExtensions/API/webRequest/onAuthRequired to fill credentials.
But I guess the extension popup will be blocked and no password selection is possible.

Hi!

When will fingerprint unlock be available on Windows PC? I've been waiting for it for a while now. Tired of having to fill my password every time I need to use Enpass. Thanks!

Second that! Windows Hello Support is essential. Using it on the UWP version right now and I do not want to miss it anymore.

I'm just wondering when Ver6 drops for windows will it only be available through the Win10 store or will it also be available for those of us still stuck with Win7 on some of our machines. (Win10 Graphics drivers in particular does not like my 7 year old Advent Desktop which is my day to day home machine, Dual Boot Win7 and Zorin)

I have requested in the past for
being able to print/export selected items only

Also
I would like to create my own templates to reuse them.
I can do it with copying a previous record but this is not very convenient each time to find a similar record to reuse.

FYI I am a linux user and purchased the android version as well.

Hi

I used to be a Microsoft Edge user and for that I have installed the Enpass "bridge app" from the Windows Store. It used to work well all the time with Edge and its extension.

Now I switched to Firefox and find that the extension just launches a new tab telling me to install the Native messaging host. But I did that and also restarted the PC (Windows 10 Pro) several times by now. Did Firefox 60 perhaps render the NMH incompatible? Or what else could be the problem?
