Enpass 5.4 for Desktop: Bucketful of Surprises

From the last couple of months, we’ve been working hard on a special update for Enpass desktop editions. We recently rolled out Enpass 5.4 for Mac, Windows, and Linux, and have gotten tremendous feedback from our beta testing community.

So, here we are with the final version of Enpass 5.4 for desktop, available on our website and also on the Mac App Store. There are several features to enhance your productivity without getting in the way. Let’s have a look at some of the highlights.

Quick Pin unlock:

Everyone hates entering that lengthy, complex master password to unlock Enpass each time. But that’s a thing of the past with the latest version 5.4.

All you have to do is set up a quick alphanumeric PIN using Enpass settings. and whoosh... all done! Further ahead, you can use the PIN to unlock Enpass quickly. Of course, Quick PIN unlock works only if the app is running in the background, else the master password would be required.

The Auto backup:

Are you among those, who don't sync their data to any cloud and even forget to take backup of updated Enpass data risking data loss. Unfortunately, you’re not alone.

Our new Auto backup feature is exactly for users like these, so that you don't have to take backup of your data manually, and Enpass will do that for you. Enpass now takes regular backup of your updated data in encrypted form, which you can manage and track very easily. You can also enable/disable this feature any time using Enpass settings.

And not only this, Enpass also creates a list of all the backup files and allows you to restore any one from the list. For more, read How to restore data from Auto backup files here.

CSV/DSV import:

Well, this might be a check mark for us, but a much requested feature from our community of over a million users.

If you're using some other password manager, and have your data stored in your own customized comma separated, tab separated or any other delimiter separated file. Well, you can import from these files too. All you'd have to do is just follow these simple steps described in user-manual or check out our help video and voila… all done.

Improved field sharing:

Just like Enpass mobile apps, the users of Enpass on the desktop can also now enjoy the selective field sharing. Instead of the whole item, you can now manually select the fields of your choice of any item, and share them easily. This also saves the need of copying these fields manually and sharing them over email. Nifty little feature, eh?

The Subset of password:

Another marquee feature Enpass has incorporated this time is Subset of passwords. Now every time any website (yeah, that bank website too!) asks you to enter the first, fourth, or maybe some special set of characters, you can let Enpass handle that. You can easily generate the subset of any password any time you want… just follow these steps described in user-manual, and you're all set.

Folder management:

This time, Enpass has enhanced the items and Folder management. Unlike the previous versions, you can now create a sub-folder from the item's context menu itself and even move or copy the items from any folder/sub-folder to another folder/sub-folder, and can do a lot more with it.

Well, we've also got some other enhancements apart from squashing some creepy bugs. To know the specifics, checkout the complete change-log for Mac, Windows and Linux. Give the latest version a try, and share your experience with us on Twitter/Facebook. For any complaints or suggestion of features, head to the Enpass Forums.

Is there any update regarding Extension for the Microsoft edge browser?

Enpass Team 1 year, 10 months ago

Hi Bipin,

Microsoft is working on the required APIs to let applications like Enpass communicate with the Edge browser extension and they have shared a little details with us. Based on those details we have started the development but we will be in a state to announce any ETA only after Microsoft introduce these APIs in one of coming Insider versions. Till then, please bear with us!

Thank you for commenting. Can't wait to have the Edge extension as it will be the last piece to say that Enpass is undoubtedly the BEST password manager!

Bipin Paul 1 year, 9 months ago

Well , the upcoming extension will work with UWP apps or just with the Desktop version of apps.

Do not update to this version if you want to sync sync with a self signed WebDav server like owncloud… no "trust anyway" option

This is bad. Enpass guys, can you explain and fix, please ? Thanks.

Why use a self-signed certificate when you can get a legitimate one for free from, say, Lets Encrypt?

Pawel 1 year, 9 months ago

After update Enpass stopped working, there is "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way". Same problem on two Windows 10 PCs.

Enpass Team 1 year, 9 months ago

Hi Pawel,

The 'Runtime error' issue has been fixed in the recent update v5.4.1. So kindly update your app.

Pawel 1 year, 9 months ago

Thanks, now it works great!

Please allow application autofill, specifically remote desktop password management. I currently have a encrypted spreadsheet of thousands of rdp passwords to systems that would be nice using a hotkey to autofill. I'm using autohotkey for this now.

Please add "Windows Hello" to the Windows Desktop version. That would mean huge advantage vs Lastpass. At the moment, I'm sticking to lastpass as Windows Hello is not supported on the Windows Desktop version.

Enpass Team 1 year, 9 months ago

Hi Talan,

Currently, there is no provision for biometrics authentication in our traditional desktop app. due to the unavailability of required APIs for Win32 apps. We are waiting for official release of any relevant APIs and as soon as we have them, we will start working on this feature.

Rafal 1 year, 9 months ago

"Windows Hello" in the desktop version is essential, even if we have to pay for it. The UWP version containing this feature is useless without browser extensions.

When will be Enpass Portable updated to this version?

Enpass Team 1 year, 8 months ago

Hi Martin,

Currently our dev team is working to bring the Attachments feature to Enpass along with some other enhancements. We will start working on it after the release of attachment support and at this moment I can not confirm you any ETA and would say it's already in our list.

Thanks for your love and understanding.

It would be really useful to have the chance to share some passwords with other members of a team/family.
I mean: I have my own passwords and my wife has her owns...
but we also have common logins (common homebanking, home management and so on...)
Is there the possibility to share them?
For example a sort of "shared folder"...

Enpass Team 1 year, 8 months ago

Hi Mick,

Currently, Enpass has single vault support and if you want to share it, the whole Enpass database will be shared. But the feature of multi-vault support is already in our top-priority list and will definitely available in future releases. For more details please refer https://discussion.enpass.io/index.php?/topic/25-open-multiple-vaults/

Thanks so much for this post about the Enpass 5.4! I am glad to see that you addressed a few different features for this program. It seems like it will be very useful!

Here are some of my concerns -

* It would be great to protect individial items with an optional password repromt so that I don't accidentally update / delete the most important items. (Your competitor Lastpass has this) * The browser extension pop-out is not user friendly. The size and placement of content is a bit congested. (Lastpass UI is much better as we can navigate through the content with in the browser plugin popout itself)

Hope enpass team fixed these.
