From Chrome Browser

If you have saved some login details in your Chrome browser and want to import the details to Enpass, well, this section is for you.

Step 1: Export data from Chrome Browser

Before importing your login details from Chrome Browser to Enpass, first you need to export the details in .csv unencrypted file format. Usually you need the desktop version for respective software to export your data in unencrypted format.

Follow these steps to export your data-

  • Load chrome://flags/#password-import-export in the Chrome address bar and hit the Enter-key on your keyboard.
  • Switch the Password import and export preferences to Enabled and click on Relaunch now to restart the chrome browser. Chrome browser needs to be re-started whenever you change flags in the browser before the new or changed features become available.
  • Now load the password manager either by using chrome://settings/passwords, or select Menu > Settings > Advanced Settings > Manage Passwords under Passwords and Forms.
  • To save all passwords, select the export button. You will be prompted to enter the user account password before the save prompt is displayed.

Chrome saves all passwords as a plain text CSV file. The data exported to unencrypted file is highly insecure and vulnerable. We recommend that you delete the corresponding .csv file as soon as the importing process is finished.

Step 2: Import data into Enpass desktop

Only the desktop version of Enpass can import data from Chrome Browser. The process is automatic and very easy.

  • open Enpass, click on File and select Import from the context menu.
  • It’ll open the list of all the supported Password managers. Select Generic CSV/DSV from the list and click on Next.
  • Now you’ll be asked to choose the file and its delimiter (comma for .csv files) from which you want to import the data. Click on Choose file.. to select the file from the system and click on Next to continue.
  • You’ll be provided with the list of all the items you can import. You first need to select the template type to categorize the items. Click on Select template type and choose the respective template from the drop-down list. Lets say you chose Login, for example.
  • Now you need to choose the items using check-boxes to be marked as Login.
  • You now have to name each column to be imported in the item. Click on Choose at the top of each column and select the option from the context menu to name that column. Only the columns which you’ve named will only be imported in the item.
  • Once you’ve selected the items, click on Import and Continue.
  • A pop-up will appear to show you the total number of imported items.
