New avatar of Enpass is on the way

It feels like yesterday when we were having our discussion meeting last summer, analyzing all the feature requests and improvements, and we came out with a decision to implement them in the next major release - Enpass 6. Since it was not possible to add them to the existing architecture so it became a necessity to rewrite the Enpass again from scratch to support the new architecture. The adrenaline rush was quite visible in the team and everyone seemed so enthusiast to make this happen soon. We made the word public and sparkled our users with this exciting news.

Presuming to make the update ready by March 2018, we geared up for the enthralling journey ahead. During the period, we released some important updates in the existing Enpass app e.g, support for attachments, Autofill in Android-O, new Store app for Microsoft Windows 10 and WebExtension for Firefox. Your exciting feedback for all these features kept us motivated and excited for the road ahead. While on course, there surfaced some wicked issues seizing a lion's share of our attention and the development time. For a quite long time, we kept on trying to support Edge extension in the UWP version but eventually due to missing APIs in Windows, we have to drop that and finally, we came out with an all-new bridged app on Store. Another such time suck emerged when Firefox announced the deprecation of add-ons and we had to work on the Enpass-5 desktop apps again to support the WebExtensions.

All these unwelcomed issues added delay to the presumed timeline of March 2018, and as a result, we get a lot of queries on Twitter and our forum asking about the development progress. Well, we admit there’s been a delay from our side but we assure you that all our team is burning the candles from both ends for Enpass 6 and we believe that at the same development-pace, the beta version would be available by the end of May 2018. So, guys, we believe that your co-operation is there as usual and we promise that something awesome is on the way.

Thanks for your understanding!

March 2018 will be released the official Enpass 6 and May will be released the future versions of Enpass 6? Is it?

The first beta for Enpass 6 will come in May 2018 and the final official release will come after that.

Excuse me, will you open or audit your code as you promised with enpass 6 ? I've waiting for that because I'd like to move to enpass.

Reply

Yes, definitely. The security audit is scheduled after the official release of Enpass 6.

Will Enpass 6 have support for Windows Hello/Fingerprint sensors ?

Reply

Enpass Team 2 months, 3 weeks ago

Hi,

Unfortunately, we don't have anything concrete to say on this. We've already integrated Windows Hello in the Windows Store Bridged app back in December 2017. But the APIs required for Hello integration doesn't work great with the Bridged apps and it doesn't offer the smooth user experience, required for an official release. Although, we are in talks with the Microsoft team to make it better and waiting for their support. Till then we appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter.

Wait, Windows Hello is available in the Bridged app? That's the "Enpass Password Manager" in the Store, right?

Reply

Enpass Team 2 months, 2 weeks ago

Hi,

No. Currently, Windows Hello is supported only in Enpass UWP app available in Windows Store as 'Enpass' app. More details https://www.enpass.io/blog/enpass-for-windows-which-version-should-i-use/.

That is sad news. For me that is most important feature.
Instead of logging to Enpass and then using keyboard shortcut I wish I could use my fingerprint sensor.
With touch of the fingerprint enpass could unlock, execute the keyboard shortcut, lock back. Safe and convenient.
Have you fought on adding plugin option - maybe community ( including me ) could write it ?

Same here, Windows Hello is the most important feature which keeps me from using the bridged app. I hope it gets added soon!

That's strange, because 1Password recently announced a 1Password 7 beta for Windows, and it supports Windows Hello.

I just want to say thanks for your hard work and say thanks also for a tool that has made incorporating a password manager into my online life pretty painless. I look forward to the new version.

I have requested for few new features

1) Making the browser plugin pop-up a bit larger and provide more options for it
2) Password/fingerprint re-confirmation for deleting important items
3) Copying an item requires two taps in the current app. There should be a copy icon next to the item so that with the single tap I can copy
4) Font options.

I hope these features are coming in enpass 6.

1) Available in next major update.
2) Noted.
3) Already available in desktop apps.
4) Noted.

@Enpass why won't just release an official presentation for the upcoming release? I respect your work behind closed doors, but I assume the feature-list as well as the core is pretty frozen by now entering a stabilization phase.

You could really benefit by teasing your patient usera/customers by now.

You really need to start charging, I don't see how a one-off charge for mobile apps pays your development costs -- as much as I love free upgrades etc, I would rather pay a fair amount to ensure you'll be around for the long run.

(Just not a subscription model, please.)

my android device is in version 7.0 and I would like you make some improvements to Enpass, such as:
1. ability to be able to add a password while in the login fields of the app or website.
2. in addition to the notification in the status bar, which enpass has the ability to appear as a pop pup
3. Improve the icons on both Android and Windows, that is, make the interface more beautiful.
4. Improve what already works perfectly.

Could you please release a sneak peek of the features? Something like that?
Is on the way feature like "2FA" like 1password did?

Enpass Team 1 month, 2 weeks ago

Hi,

Yes, we do have surprises for you coming in the near future. Also, we would like to share that being an offline password manager Enpass doesn’t keep any of your information or data on any cloud/server. Two-factor authentication is used in online services where the requested data is transmitted after validating the user through a second factor (generally an OTP on phone or email) and works as extra protection, which is not at all required in case of offline services as your data is with you only. Will the coming new version bring the feature that the favicon for saved entries will be taken dynamically from each online source? This would be a real great enhancement!

Are Multiple vaults present in Enpass 6?
ie. Personal and Work vaults?

Can we create a shared vault/password with another enpass user?
ie. Parents Netflix on their Enpass vault, sharing password with Kids Enpass vault.

Reply

Hi,

The next update will support multi-vaults, and you can segregate your database (Work and Personal). It will also allow you to share a vault with another Enpass user via sync.

I bought & installed on my Windows PC version 5.5.7 (from Windows10 store).
But in this desktop version we can not synchronize with icloud!
Is that possible in the Enpass 6 that is coming?
